Advising
We know that career, immigration, cultural, and personal matters are often interrelated. Once you are a member of the Verami network, our advisors can work with you one-on-one (in person, over the phone, or via e-mail) to help you make long-term plans or coach you through immediate needs. We will show you how to ask questions, plan ahead, and avoid making assumptions that might create problems for you in the future.
The non-tax-deductible fee for a typical advising session is $150. Payment plans can be arranged for those in special circumstances.
A typical advising session lasts 1 to 2 hours. Advising may include, but is not limited to:
- Preparing you to talk to your immigration lawyer or international student & scholar advisor
- Planning your career path with visa transitions in mind
- Coaching for interviews, so you know how to talk to employers about your immigration status
- Exploring visa options for a family member to visit or live in the U.S.
- Adjusting to life in the United States or preparing for re-entry culture shock when leaving the U.S.
As part of the advising process, we may refer you to members of the Verami network who can meet some of your needs, such as immigration lawyers you can trust, potential employers or mentors, or contacts within your industry.
